Snapshot: Legal Aid

One of the functions of the Institute for Human Rights and Development in Africa (IHRDA) is to provide free legal counsel to human rights victims seeking justice in domestic or regional courts.  By taking on these cases, IHRDA hopes to encourage the enforcement of human rights through the continent and bring attention to the function of domestic and regional courts and organizations in the protection of said rights.  IHRDA tends to focus on the rights of children, minorities, and refugees through their legal work, as well as economic and social rights.  However, their broad case portfolio also includes litigation regarding judicial rights (e.g. right to a fair trial) and discrimination.
